“The Ethereum platform promises to decentralise regulation, disrupt old systems and bring power to the people. To truly meet this promise they will need to do a lot of building with humankind in mind. One project already using this platform is Provenance.
This uses the blockchain to record each step of a product’s journey so that supply chains become more transparent and traceable. Provenance has started to organise public debates and seminars, asking ‘How do you build an information system for social good?’ — the question is currently one of its chief concerns.
Elsewhere, the Honduras government is also using blockchain technologies to update its land registry records. There is great potential here to prevent corruption, as once land records are verified no one will be able to tamper with them.”
